We have a place in our area which takes random donation items.
Basically it's a junk store, but to a non-profit museum, it is a
treasure chest.  Our donation bank is connected to a clothing bank, so
maybe get into contact with the local clothing bank.  This place
collects great "stuff", including film canisters.  We also do the film
canister rocket activity and I admit that it doesn't work as well with
some canister, yet when between a rock and a hard place it will do.
