The French Embassy in Washington, D.C. is sponsoring a tour in the U.S. for Dr. Jean-Louis Etienne, one of France's famous polar explorers. He will be giving talks about the changes he's observed at the North and South Poles during his extreme adventures and will also address his next voyage to the Southern Ocean, in a polar pod that will drift around Antarctica in the "furious fifties"! His lectures are aimed at a broad public with an interest in scientific issues, and with the extent of arctic sea ice reaching record lows, who better than a first-class observer to discuss what is going on and what can be expected? Dr. Etienne's tour is scheduled to last about a week and will begin on December 12, 2012 at MIT, followed by the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Others have also expressed interest, but there are still some possibilities. If your institution is interested in hosting such a lecture, please contact Walter Staveloz at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
