All,

As many of you know, the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is currently seeking public comments on the draft guidelines for the FY 2013 Museums for America and National Leadership Grants for Museums programs. The guidelines for these programs have been revised to align with the IMLS Strategic Plan<http://idevmail.americaneagle.com/link.aspx?l=1&d=196&mid=358530&m=823>. IMLS is seeking comments to assess how well these guidelines accomplish a number of goals, including: (1) making federal dollars more accessible by reducing complexity; (2) increasing clarity and readability; (3) making it easier to see where a project idea fits best; (4) making it easier to articulate the impact of project ideas; (5) allowing grantees greater ability to pursue professional development activities by combining the purposes and funding for the current 21st Century Museum Professionals and National Leadership Grants for Museums programs<http://idevmail.americaneagle.com/link.aspx?l=3&d=196&mid=358530&m=823>; and (6) providing greater ability for museums and organizations that serve museums to pursue National Leadership Grants that have broad impact for their communities and create models that can be adapted by others.

For more information, visit www.imls.gov/applicants/draft_fy13_guidelines_nlg.aspx<http://www.imls.gov/applicants/draft_fy13_guidelines_nlg.aspx>. ASTC will be submitting a response on behalf of the field, and we welcome your thoughts and perspectives on the draft guidelines prior to the July 6 closing date for public comments - please send them to me at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Individual ASTC members are, of course, welcome to offer comments to IMLS as well; they should be sent to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Thanks,
Sean
