Hi Joan,

Many years ago while I was at the Boston Museum of Science I developed
an exhibit to demonstrate why a curve ball curves. This was imbedded
within a larger exhibit on the science of baseball that was a
collaboration between the museum and the Boston Red Sox. The curve ball
exhibit was rather small and used a small wind tunnel and rotatable
cylinder with an image of a baseball on the top. Kids could vary the
wind velocity and also decide whether or not to have the "ball" rotate.
It was quite surprising to see the "ball" move to one side or the other
of the tunnel when it spun and not move out of the center when it was
stationary. We combined that with actual footage of some of the Boston
pitchers throwing curve balls toward the camera. The whole thing worked
well and was (as I remember) well received.

Last year DragonflyTV, the PBS Kids show, filmed a segment on baseball
with the Museum of Nature & Science (formerly The Science Place) in
Dallas.

You can view the segment online at:

We developed several print-based educational activities for this
segment. You can view them online at:

We are currently planning an event with a local baseball team called
"The
Physics of Baseball." I'm wondering if other institutions have done
this
and any one might be willing to share the types of activities they have
done. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!
