Associate Director of Education, Student and Teacher Programs
at the Adler Planetarium, Chicago

A full-time position.
The Adler Planetarium, (Chicago, IL), has an opportunity available in the Education Department. Department.  This senior member of the education team will be accountable for projects and staff related to camps, field trips, after school clubs,
pre-service teacher training, in-service teacher professional development and coaching, long-term whole-school partnerships, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:
	   Guide and oversee cycles of design, implementation, and evaluation/reflection for all student and teacher programs – including both developing new initiatives and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing programs;
    	 Mentor and supervise staff;
    	 Manage divisional budgets and resources;
    	 Serve as a liaison between the Adler and external stakeholders such as Chicago Public Schools, suburban school districts, and the philanthropic community;
Maintain relationships with external funders and collaborate on a range of corporate, foundation, and government grant applications and reports.

	 Education and Experience:
A Master’s degree or higher in curriculum and instruction, urban school administration, or related field is required. Undergraduate course work or teaching certificate in science is preferred;
    	 3+ years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban district;
    	 Experience directly supervising a department or team in an academic, non-profit, or business setting and managing an annual budget ($200,000+);
    	 Experience managing the production of learner-centered science education products or services from concept through design, development, implementation, and evaluation;
    	 Experience delivering professional development to science teachers, preferably in Chicago Public School or other large urban district;
    	 Experience securing grants and maintaining relationships with funders;
Active participation in the educational research community is desirable.

	 Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal communication skills and comfort delivering oral presentations to a wide range of youth and adult audiences;
Excellent writing and editing skills including the ability to tailor writing styles to the needs of specific audiences (e.g. students, teachers, funders, etc.).
