I don't know if I agree that natural selection will weed these folks
out. If there's one thing I learned from last year's screening of A
Flock of Dodos (about the evolution/ID debate), it's this: proponents of
ID and creationism tell a more resonant, appealing story than
evolutionists do. And Americans love a good story more than they love
the truth.
I wrote a blog post about this at www.museumtwo.com.
I truly hope that we are up to the challenge of telling comparably
compelling stories about the scientific history of the universe. We
can't afford to rest on the fact that we're stewards of the truth when a
good story is sweeping people off their feet.

"Depressing" doesn't even begin to capture this endeavor. "Mind-
boggling and incredible" is what i felt upon reading your post. I
cannot get my mind around this: how can one of the scientifically
most advanced countries in the world offer the breeding grounds,
literally and figuratively, for such a "museum" in the 21st century?
Having asked that, however, here is a comforting thought. Natural
selection, sooner or later, will do the inevitable thing it does
best: eradicate this nonsensical and disadvantageous trait in the
population of our species.
