We go with fine playground sand. At the end of the day we just scoop all
the sand back toward the source of the table with shovels to clear the
mouth of the exhibit which takes about five minutes. It doesn't really
need to be level. We also drain all the water out of the exhibit
everyday and refill it in the morning. This keeps all the bacteria from
people's hands out of the system and keeps the sand and water clean. We
replace the sand every few months.

Hello,

We are working on a new stream table and are wondering what medium you
found to be most useful; walnut shells, sand, or something? What are the
advantages and disadvantages of each.

What method do you use to resurface /re-level the material on the table?
Do you have an automatic system that flushes the table ever so often or
are you not concerned with leveling it?

Thank you,

Donna
