We have found the same thing with our small armies of front-line
educators. It can be easier to teach new front-line staff the basic
science they'll need rather than teach basic presentation/teaching
skills, so we usually focus on the teaching/presenting skills when
hiring.

We focus on the education/presentation/performance skills when selecting
, of course a science back ground is a plus but not necessary.
Usually the science content that has to be presented can be learned.
We  always take care that in the team there are a few people with a
science background.

Hi all,

I'm hoping you can help settle a recent [friendly] debate with a
colleague: When hiring your front-line education staff to teach programs
(i.e. classes; for us that's a small army of part timers), how many of
you hire for education/presentation/performance background vs science
background (recognizing that both is ideal!).
