ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers

Hi, it sounds like a toss up. Maybe La/El change in the course of a
few months.

Too bad the upper graph on the home page doesn't extend higher north.
It looks like it ends around the Baja border. The lower map shows cold
waters along the CA coast. It's too bad the dates cannot be changed on
the upper graph.

I'm just reading Merchants of Doubts. It's about individuals,
organizations, and institutes who willing try to cast doubt on science
findings (funded by Corps), particularly when science gets involved in
regulation. Product and useful discovery, OK by them. It starts with a
Dr. Satner, UCBerkley, who recently quite convincingly showed CC/GW is
caused by man. He suffered a horrific attack by the doubters. Only
recently has he had time to continue his research.

However, the jet stream and its Rossby waves are for some reason locked in an unusual state. This has tended to set up upper level atmospheric support for a consistent eastern Pacific high pressure and western continental low, and a corresponding strong and consistent onshore flow. Why this is occurring is not clear and likely related to other co-occurring climate weather anomalies: heat in central Russia, severe monsoons in Pakistan, and heat wave on the East Coast, etc. We'll probably no more in several years as the forcing factors and analysis becomes clearer.

>> As I understand it, the Calif. coast has had colder weather this summer in the northern part, and warmer in the south. I heard someone say we are experiencing La Nina, but I don't think so, El Nino. How do climatologist call the shot on this? Book, website? Lots of stuff out there, but I've found nothing on this question.
