Bob,
We have used laminated graphics and text panels
for a number of years. I like the cold lamination process
over the hot one because you can do matte as well as
glossy finishes.
Most of the cold laminators will also allow you to
apply a pressure sensitive adhesive to the back of the
graphic and mount it on foamcore, Sintra or other
material.
If you are applying the graphics on a wall with the
protective lamination, you don't need to use plex or
lexan over them. If you are mounting them where they
will be covered, I'm not sure why you want to laminate
them rather than just cover them with the plastic sheet
material.
There are lots of companies out there who make
laminators... you want to find one who has someone
who distributes materials in your area and who can
provide you some support. It really helps to get some
hands-on training in the use of the laminator to get
your best results. The width of the laminator is probably
the biggest decision you will make. Figure out how
big you may be making panels and figure out if you
will only have a few bigger panels or lots of them. You
can send out a few, but want to have a laminator that
is big enough to meet most of your needs.
You need a really clean space to do lamination.
A piece of dust between the lamination material and
the backing will leave a pucker in the surface and
ruin the look.
Hope this helps...
