It is interesting that John Falk, as part of his thesis work (?) at
Berkeley, developed a "workshop" for children in which each child was
assigned a 3 x 3 foot of grass plot and, as I recall, they were to
catalogue all life in the patch over a period of time. Memory fails me as
to the exact details but there were cards with encouragements. It certainly
resembles the approach taken by David Haskell; perhaps not at his intensity
and scientific level. Some where in my office I have the folder containing
John's program, or I may have leant it to someone. I have always wanted to
initiate a project like this at the Hall of Science but could not find a
program of sufficient intensity . Perhaps I'll find myself a piece of
"woods" somewhere.
