Composting is easy even for city apartment dwellers like myself - I've
got a worm bin on my back porch (no, it doesn't stink). And it's fun
(yes, I'm a weirdo) - I get a kick out of the fact that even though I
add material to my bin every time I cook, the bin never seems to get any
fuller - it's truly amazing to watch decomposers at work.

Compost! It has double benefits.

Keeping compostables out of the waste stream saves energy, preserves
habitat
that is not needed for landfill space, reduces the air pollution
associated
with transportation, and the water pollution associated with leachate
from
landfills.

Using compost at home saves fossil fuels associated with creating,
packaging
and transporting fertilizers, reduces the air and water pollution caused
by
fertilizer runoff, and because it encourages beneficial microbes and
insects
it reduces the need for chemical pesticides and herbicides that have all
sorts of negative environmental impacts.

Plus it's free and easy (even in the city).

At the request of a coworker, I'm trying to compile a list of the "Top
10
Ways to Go Green." There are so many to choose from, and I'm curious
what
you think are the things most people can do easily, relatively
inexpensively
and that have the most impact.

thanks, list!

discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny..."
