Kim,

I have hosted a similar "class" a couple years ago.

Price:

We charged $150/person for the consulting service and the student
purchased the hardware themselves.

What we found is everyone has different needs and therefore selecting
hardware for someone is difficult. We provided them with a list of each
component the computer needed and three recommendations for each
component. The student would purchase the hardware and bring it with
them. We generally recommended a couple stores to buy the hardware from
as well.

We would then help them to assemble the hardware and install the
software. The software installation is probably the most time consuming
and most rewarding part of the process. Many companies offer to help
them build a computer but then the customer takes it home and can't do
anything because they do not understand what an Operating System is or
how to install one.

Length:

We spent three hours on hardware the first day and three hours on
software the second day. We had two instructors present to help the
first day and three the second day.

Warranty:

Since the customers purchased their own hardware and software, they
would be required to return to where the purchased the equipment. We
made it clear that we would not provide future support on that computer
for free. There would be a charge if they wanted help.

Hope this helps!!!

I am looking for information on Computer Assembly Classes. These would
be
classes where the participants would assemble a computer and then take
it
home with them. All parts would be included in the cost of the class.

Has anyone ever done this before or know of companies who do? If so,
can
you provide me with information regarding the class including, but not
limited to:

Price
Length
How did you handle any problems that arose with the computers after the
class?

I am just trying to compare our class design what else might be out
there.

Thank you.
