Peter,
I do not know if you arrived at Pittsburgh's original Buhl Planetarium in time to see our stationary bicycle, sponsored by Duquesne Light Company, where a patron would pedel to light-up ever higher wattage light bulbs. This exhibit was in the Mezzanine Gallery for decades circa 1960s to mid-1980s.
It was removed, and later replaced, with the stationary bicycle in "The Right Moves" exhibit, which simply caused a fan to lift a light-weight ball. I will never understand why the Duquesne Light bicycle was not simply incorporated as a part of "The Right Moves" exhibit.
