SciPlay, the Sara Lee Schupf Family Center for Play, Science, and Technology Learning, located
at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI), is searching for a post-doctoral fellow or research
analyst to take a senior role in a design-based research project on learning science through
play. The SciPlay Fellow will help design and test sensor-based technological enhancements to
NYSCI’s Science Playground, collaborating with faculty at Tufts University and Brooklyn
College, City University of New York. These enhancements are designed to support middle
school physics learning through play and embodied learning.

- Lead the planning and execution of research studies on playful learning environments
- Collect data including observation, prompted verbalization, tests, and surveys
- Analyze data using mixed methods
- Write up findings to inform redesign and for summative evaluation purposes

education, psychology, museum studies, or related field are strongly encouraged to
apply
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in one of the above areas or in a STEM discipline with
significant experience conducting educational research are also encouraged to apply
- Prior experience with informal science learning is a plus
- Prior experience teaching science is a plus

Salary is commensurate with qualifications: $42,000 - $55,000 with full benefits. The
fellowship is full-time for one year beginning immediately, with the opportunity to transition at
the end of the first year. We are also interested in hearing from individuals available

SciPlay is a national center that aims to advance our understanding of how to promote science
learning through play. SciPlay pursues a program of design-based research, designing playful
learning environments and studying the impact of such environments in NYSCI’s natural
laboratory to educe design principles for playful science learning. SciPlay also engages in more
fundamental research on play. Ultimately, SciPlay aims to apply its findings to develop and
disseminate new approaches to bridge informal and formal science learning environments to
build a seamless national infrastructure for lifelong science learning.
