In the past, I've also made a terrarium and explained to students that the plant survives in the closed system because water cycles through continuously.  It's nice when there's a bit of condensation at the top, too, then the students can shake it (gently!) to make it rain.  We've also had the kids tell to story of a water droplet as it travels through the water cycle, round robin style.
