Our main seasonal event - not an uncommon one, I suspect, is a Halloween
party for members. It's pretty popular.

The kids come in costume. We have a few Halloween-y activities, like a
haunted house/room, face painting, some creepy crafts, a scavenger hunt with
candy prizes. Plus we do some spooky variations on our usual schtick: we
have a Halloween laser show, some creepy demos, we take out the more
Halloween-ish animals from our collection (owls, spiders...) You know that
game where you guess the number of X in a jar? Works great if you have a
large collection of live hissing cockroaches.

We've also used a trick from Penn & Teller's book "How to Play in Traffic"
that lets you use a Polaroid camera to take photos of ghosts. Oddly, the
rest of the staff vetoed my idea for another P&T trick: one that lets you
fake having bitten into an apple spiked with razor blades.

Hello, all:

I would be grateful if people would be willing to share their ideas for
successful seasonal program. Zoos do zoo lights, botanical gardens do
holiday conservatory shows. What has worked for you all around
halloween, xmas, pass-easter-over, etc? Thanks in advance.
