ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

There was a study commissioned by the Carnegie Science Center that
documented the changes in attendance in some 25 US science centers after
an expansion. It is called "What is the Effect on Attendance When a
Science Center Expands." It also includes a very handy Excel model into
which you input a dozen or so values, from which it projects the likely
audience of the expanded institution. This model is based upon the
survey, using multivariate regression analyses, best fit, all that SPSS
stuff. Anyway, it is a very worthwhile study, considerably better than
throwing a dart at a dartboard.
And it doesn't distinguish between school/group visitation and general
public visitation.

It is copyrighted 2003 by the Carnegie Science Center, and authored by
Amy Gilligan and Jan Allen. The only way I was able to get my hands on
it was to call Carnegie and ask around until I found someone who could
send it to me.
