ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************

Over the years in the U.S. we've modeled school buildings embedded in or
partnered with science centers. The California Science Center and others
are formally partnered with teacher training institutions with in-museum
lab classes. Many of us are formally involved with teacher training,
providing credit via a higher education partner, and Explo is now granting
credit, as the American Museum of Natural History. Science centers like
centers like Liberty are formally associated with the state education
system....often asked to provide science content via distance learning to
failing districts that the State has taken over.

A recent communication from S.K. Emdadul Islam, head of the Birla Science
Center sees this last model launching in India. the National Council of
Science Museums -- umbrella of 40+ (and counting!) science centers in India
has been asked to partner with a "Local State Government on two new schemes
building capacity among teachers in all state run schools for 1)
child-centric activity based learning/teaching in primary schools and 2)
computer aided classroom transactions for providing equitable quality
learning opportunities to all students in secondary schools thorughout the
19 districts of the state."

To find out more about Indian plans underway, or offer your externally
evaluated models in similar work, contact S.K. Islam at [log in to unmask]
