Some variations on this idea:

1) Write on one egg the word "sink" and on the other "float". Have two
containers - one with salt water, the other with regular water. Tell the
audience that you have eggs that know how to read. Place the "sink" egg
in the regular water and the "float" egg in the salt water. You can also
try magic words, etc. Always fun.

2) Put salt water in a container, place the egg in and then gentle pour
fresh water on top. (Pouring the water down the side works well and
prevents mixing.) It will make the egg look like it's floating. I had my
9th graders going for days on how I made the egg stay suspended in the
middle of the container.

Note: Try to use Kosher salt for any tricks like those described above.
It makes a solution that is clear (unlike regular table salt which tends
to make a cloudy solution) and harder to distinguish from plain water.

Going back to my science museum roots here...

I'm very fond of the "trick" in which you get the egg to float in a
glass of water by adding salt to the water.

What's your favorite cool science activity that involves eggs? I'm
trying to get a bunch together (not for Easter, but for National Egg
Month, which is
May!)

I admit I have never tried the classic "egg on the mouth of a jar, drop
in a match, egg gets sucked in." And I've never tried it because no one
has ever been able to satisfactorily answer the question "And how do you
get the egg out?" So I'd love answers to that, and also other
suggestions for some egg-sellent fun!

Thanks for you sugg-egg-stions.
