Hello!

I am new to ISEN, but have been a demonstrator at Pacific Science Center
for many years now. I am hoping someone can help us understand what is
needed to create a Ruben's Tube. We are modifying our Sound
demonstration and are very excited about potentially incorporating this
as our finale'.

Here are things we need to know.

1-How do we best build a good, lasting, safe Rubens Tube? I have seen
some PVC models wrapped in tin foil, but we are thinking maybe a drilled
out aluminum tube would be better and safer.

2- What are common pitfalls people experience so we can avoid them. Are
there safety dangers, materials that make it more hazardous that we
should avoid, gas rigging pitfalls?

3- What are the steps for prepping the experiment, conducting it and
cleanup/storage? What things should the demonstrator know to give a
good demo and to be safe?

Also- we have all kinds of ideas about music we could play through this
tube for effect, and are wondering about maybe setting up a keyboard so
we can play music through it live. Does anyone have any ideas about
this or has anyone tried using various ways of producing sound for this
experiment?

Any ideas you have would be most helpful. If you have no idea what a
Rubens tube is, You Tube has a lot of videos on this topic, here is one:

                                                                    Many
Thanks,

Holly!
