Hi Patricia!

There's a whole line of research out there on visual cognition that is
really providing some STARTLING stuff about how we see (well, at least
startling for me, I don’t want to speak for anyone else)...Two lines of
research - innatentional blindness and change blindness - in particular
fascinate me, and visitors are astounded by how many things around them
they don't 'see' (and I do mean astounded!)...What I like is that these
are in many ways very 'practical' illusions, in that it's easy to apply
them in your everyday experience...Plus, Dr. Simons and a couple of
other researchers have been wonderful to speak with! I highly recommend
you purchase their DVD, if not for use in your demo then to spur on some
more ideas...

Main page:

And for specific examples (great video examples of some of their work):

Also, here's a page for two CD's put out by a researcher in auditory
illusions...Haven't purchased either one yet, but might be worth
checking out!

Best of luck!

Hi,

As we just opened a new temporary exhibition on illusions, one of my
collegues is putting together a show about illusions. The idea is to
give more in depth information to the audience about why we observe
illusions. The show has to be performed 2 or 3 times a day for an
audience of ca 100 persons (children and adults) He has an extremely
long list of 'nice illusions for the show', but most tend to be of the
'flat visual' type.

But we like to engage the audience (fe. sausage between your vingers,
hole in your hand) and involve other senses (fe. Sheppard tones) But
that list is rather short. Does anyone has some ideas which might help
him out? Suggestions for more interactive illusions, and illusions who
involve more than seeing (and of course: are easy to do and cheap) are
very welcome.

Thanks in advance

Patricia
