Bob,

It sounds like you might like to take a look at something the MIT Museum has accomplished recently for a NEW exhibit about Doc Edgerton.

This system seamlessly runs multiple data bases (it has a federated search function) and it allows multiple outside users to add information to a huge collection of movies, photos and notebook pages. It handles lots of meta information well.

Bob,
We are also a Mac house, and purchased a PC to run Past Perfect. It's a collections management package but can do all sorts of things, including export to your website.

Wherever the photos and meta-information are stored needs to be able to be backed up. All Macs here.
