Dear Richards,

Ottoman Sultan gave some camels as gifts to US in mid-19th century, but it
was a big problem in American senate in that time. These camels were based
on U.S. Camel Corps. later.

These story was written by Lester D. Langley.

Langley, L.D. 1978. "Jacksonian America and Ottoman Empire," Muslim World
68(1): 46-56.

I took some copy of Ottoman documents in the archive on these subject five
or six years ago. If you like and If I found them in my office, I can send
you.
