Ron -

Vauban, as in Sebastian.

French military engineer.

Revolutionized the design of fortifications, but borrowed heavily from
earlier Italian work. Ft. Ti in NY and the Castillo de San Marcos in FL are
classic US examples.

The seacoast fortifications in the US that you are looking at are much
later.

Would someone please define "Vauban"? I am familiar with Emanuel Raymond
Lewis, 1979, Seacoast Fortifications of the United States; An Introductory

History, Leeward Publications, Annapolis, Maryland. The term Vauban was not

mentioned.
