At Fort Michilimackinac a French fur trade outpost taken over by the
British in 1761, European textiles were heavily traded to the local
native peoples in return for beaver pelts. Among other trade items, the
French traded a low quality cloth at a high trade rate due to the
inefficiency of production of the cloth. The the British, meanwhile, had
perfected production of a higher quality, eye-catching red cloth that
they were able to trade at a lower trade rate due to production
efficiency. Thus, the British cloths became the most imported to that
region.

I hope this helped!
