     HISTARCHers:

This summary of an article in the 1/20/00 edition of the Chicago
Tribune is germaine to the recent thread on the sale of clandestinely
     obtained artifacts:

          http://www.chicago.tribune.com/version1/article/0,1575,SAV-000121
0400,00.html David Herskowitz is a promoter for the sale of
natural history artifacts to private citizens.

The notice appeared in the 1/21/00 edition of Got CALICHE?, the
newsletter of the Southwestern Archaeology Special Interest Group.

You all might be interested in knowing that Herskowitz includes "Stone
Age tools" as a "natural history artifact."

     Read it and tremble...
