All this talk of privies reminds me that when I was researching water power
for my thesis, I visited a house which had been created from a sawmill. The
raceways, and the mid-nineteenth century water-turbine were preserved in the
basement along with a convenient one-holer, directly situated over the
tailrace.
 
Well, it was never a good thing to live downstream from a sawmill, anyway.
