It's in Walla Walla, in the downtown district (more precisely, it's on 2nd
Avenue approximately 100' north of Rose Street, located in the middle of
the present-day roadway). This road alignment dates back to at least 1860.
I've been looking through various archival documents and no luck yet on
finding out when it was first paved or if it was originally a brick road.

I agree that the obvious conclusion is of its use as a brick road, but am
thrown by the metal plate in between the two bricks discovered (and the
matching grooves). I have monitored the removal of trolley tracks elsewhere
in town and this just doesn't look anything like that. The groove in the
metal plate is approximately 1/2" wide and seems too narrow for any kind of
track.
