Fort Monmouth (and its subinstallations) in NJ was the Army's electronic
and Signal Corps training and research center form 1917 to the present.
It was also the site of the former Marconi labs. The Signal Corps began
research into radar in the 1930s. It was at Fort Monmouth (Evans) that
the first confirmable radio signal was bounced off of the moon in 1945.
Track down Dr. Richard Bingham in the CECOM history office, he will
likely be able to provide good information.
