To continue Bill Lipe's responce to Ned, in the 20 years of SOPA's
existence, several SOPA Presidents, and the elected representatives from
the varous societies to the SOPA Board DID indeed try and get each Society
to "endorse" the SOPA Code/Standards, tried to get them to publically
i.e., in newsletters, encourage their members to be certified by SOPA,
etc. The Societies, in my experience, could never decide what that would
mean to their precious status relative to lawsuits and liability, so they
did nothing. Now, as I seem to say, a route has been agreed upon which
the Boards at any rate of the potentially sponsoring societies feel they
can agreed to.
