While I agree with nearly all the folks who have posted on this thread in
support of the importance of asking questions and our individual and collective
responsibility to assist those who ask for our professional help, I would like
to jump in with a comment (not exactly in Mr. Chase's defense). 
 
As we have seen time and again, e-mail is an imperfect means of communication.
If Susan had been a bit clearer about the research she had already accomplished
and what exactly her needs where, all the huffing and puffing of the last two
days would not have occurred.
 
I am gently suggesting that queries posted to the list simply provide some
context so that readers can judge what, if anything, they have, or may want, to
contribute.
