I'm looking for info on bottle shoulder seals of the Mount Vernon Glass
Co. (Vernon, Oneida Co., NY, 1810-1844) McKearin & Wilson 1978 -American
Bottles and Flasks- think these to be the earliest American made sealed
bottles.
Several examples include the initialled bottles of John Lincklaen (JL) at
Lorenzo State Historic Site, Cazenovia, NY, and a number that were
excavated in privies related to the Dominick Lynch house and office in
Rome, NY which are also marked JL, but attributed to James Lynch,
Dominick's son who was his local manager (Lee Hanson; 1974; "Outhouses in
Rome, New York"; in Northeast Historical Archaeology [CNEHA] 3[4]:30-43).
McKearin & Wilson also note that seals were known with the initials MSW,
JH, TRC, and WB, but the individuals have not been identified.
Does anyone have any new info on these bottles and seals?
I'm already in touch with G.C.D'A, PRH, Fort Stanwix, Lorenzo - any other
leads?
Thanks, Dan W.
