INRAP the French state archaeology service has published a new book on
pottery from recent excavations in the city - Poteries de Lyon 1500-1650
by Alban Horry Probably not much got exported given its inland
situation so one for real pottery buffs but lots of nice colour photos
and a few reproductions of paintings or drawings showing kitchens and
silk weaver's workshops. Should be available from main French internet
sources at 28 euros. I recommend Lyon for short holiday- amazing
architecture and interesting cuisine. I went a few years ago after
seeing a brilliant Open University program on TV exploring its
industrial history (especially silk weaving) and how the rise of its
wealthy bourgeoisie led to its reputation as a culinary capital.
i Hope to see some of my old friends in Leicester next year for SHA
conference.
Best Wishes
