Everyone,

I have a slightly mysterious ceramic maker's mark (well, when I say 'maker's mark', I'm open to the possibility that it's a merchant's mark, etc.) that I've now found on two separate sites in Victoria, Australia, and isn't in the standard sources I can easily consult.  I was wondering if anyone else had come across it...

Both vessels are transfer printed whiteware.  One pattern is Willow, the other is an undentified brown floral transfer print.

The Willow vessel clearly states 'W. Williams' in an elaborate floral cartouche.  The other mark is a Staffordshire knot with 'W. [----]iams'.  In both cases the 'W' is on a separate line.  The brown Staffordshire knot mark also features the words 'crown semi-porcelain'.

There is no 'W. Williams' in Godden.  They are clearly _not_ from the Williamson firm.

There's a possibility that the brown mark may be for someone other than 'W.Williams' given the missing letters, but I can't think of another obvious candidate.

The contexts the materials were recovered from were all mixed mid-late 19th century, possibly edging into the early 20th.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks,
