This is the first call for papers at a proposed symposium on THE HISTORICAL
ARCHAEOLOGY OF GLOBALIZATION. Charles E. Orser has agreed to act as
discussant. The preliminary session abstract is as follows:

Globalization Theory offers a potential for coping with the problem found
at many historic sites of simultaneously integrating the intensely
localized information derived from the archaeological record with much
larger contexts. This symposium examines the interplay of "local" versus
"global", the role of historical archaeology in studying the origins and
varieties of globalization, and critiques of this body of theory as it
applies to historical archaeology. Included in the critiques are
comparisons with competing theoretical approaches, particularly
World-Systems Theory. Specific studies focus on the historical archaeology
of modernization, colonization, or capitalism, as they relate to
Globalization.

Please contact me if you are interested in participating in this session.

Thanks for your consideration,
