Couldn't this breakage simply be/result from "plinking"...or target practice (just having fun)...shooting things...for the heck of it?

Or, perhaps a reenactor group would be willing to help you out.
Do you have historic reenactors in Autralia?
Reproduction black glass can be purchased relatively inexpensively.
