Thanks to everyone, especially Misty, for the information on copper/brass kettles!

Now, for today's question … At some point in the distant past I accessed a document that listed late nineteenth or maybe early twentieth century standard occupations – such as would be listed in a census document – and placed them into contemporary socioeconomic strata, I.e., relative to the time period when they actually living, rather than trying to sort them into modern socioeconomic classifications.

I have no clear memory where this was sourced from, but it might even have come from somebody on HISTARCH.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
