Greetings to all!

I have received another odd, but potentially promising request for
information. A gentleman I know here in Utah is developing a mining
project on the Baja California in Mexico. He contacted me because the
Mexican landowners have located archaeological sites in the project
area which include human remains. This man is interested in seeing
the sites treated with appropriate concern toward the archaeological
resources. I explained the US section 106 process to him, professed
my limited knowledge of the Mexican antiquities office, and promised
to put out a call for information and get back to him as quickly as
possible.

I know we have some HISTARCHers in Mexico and several researchers that
work in that part of the world. Can anyone help with the following:

1. Who is the appropriate Mexican government official to contact about
the Baja region.

2. Based upon what I know, this project seems to be on private land
and with private capital funds. It also seems like it will be a small
concern, rather than a huge project with large investment backing.
Anyone with potential interest in the research can contact me, and I
will introduce you to the American gentleman.

Now back to my dissertation fieldwork!
Cheers,
Tim
