ACRA, the American Cultural Resources Association, a non-profit professional
business organization for cultural resources practioners was incorporated on
March 22, 1995. Chuck Niquette, archaeologist and owner of Cultural Resource
Analysts in Lexington Kentucky, was elected president at the first board
meeting, held in Atlanta, April 8 and 9. Vice President for Public Policy is
Patrick O'Bannon, senior historian for Kise Franks & Straw in Philadelphia,
and Vice President for Administration is Dana McGowan, senior archaeologist
with Jones & Stokes in Sacramento. Michael Polk owner of Sagebrush
Archaeological Consultants in Ogden Utah, was elected Secretary, and Charissa
Wang, a historical architect and owner of Hardlines: Design and Delineation
in Columbus OH, was elected Treasurer. Tom Wheaton of New South Associates
in Atlanta is Executive Director.

The focus of ACRA this year has shifted to the new Congress and the assault
on cultural resources laws and regulations. In response, ACRA has already
hired a governmental relations firm to represent our interests in Washington.
This firm, CEHP Incorporated, is headed by Loretta Neumann, who helped write
much of the existing historic preservation legislation over the past two
decades. ACRA is putting its money where its mouth is and is acting. Join
us.

Opinions expressed are indeed those of the organization! ;-)
