Dear All,

Would any of you be able to provide specific dates for the later
19th-century London medicine 'Cathery's Selzine Aperient' (not a typo,
btw).

I have several Cathery's bottles from a later 19th-century dump, and while
I know that the medicine was advertised as 'new' in 1877, I was wondering
if anyone out there might have a date range.

1877 keeps popping up with this assemblage; I have a Codd bottles, for
example, that can only have been made in 1876-1877 and 1874-1877. Other
bottle dates are also gravitating towards the second half of the 1870s.  I
want to make sure this isn't simple coincidence, hence the search for
broader dates for the Selzine Aperient.

Now don't cheat by googling.  We all know how to google these days. I'll
tell you in advance that all you'll get are some fascinating classified
ads from the Otago Witness of Dunedin, New Zealand for a range of
pharmaceutical products, put on-line by the National Library of New
Zealand.  Which, given that the bottles I'm working on were recovered in
Sheffield, England, at least emphasises the global nature of later
19th-century material culture distributions.
