I'm from the "history" part of this--completed a master's a few
years ago.  My thesis was on the Ozark Trails Association, a good
roads/route organization in the early days of automobile travel.  I
followed the "paper trail" _and_ (the fun part) headed out by car to
see what was still out there on the ground (quite a lot).  Not
exactly historical archeology, but enough to generate an interest in
it.
