Please share this information with your network. We can’t expect everyone to submit a Kickstarter pledge to support IndijiRadio, but if we spread the word widely enough, we will achieve our goal. Through this project, cutting-edge technology will serve the interests of cultural heritage and the basic human need for expression.

Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI) today launched a Kickstarter campaign to support the creation of IndijiRadio, a 24/7 online music service featuring traditional indigenous music from around the world. The Kickstarter campaign (accessible online at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1620684417/indijiradioreal-native-music-from-everywhere) will last 30 days with a goal of $38,000 in pledges. According to Kickstarter rules, the pledge goal must be reached by the deadline in order for the project to be funded. Through Kickstarter, backers find out about and support projects that they feel are worthwhile and deserving of support.

Patterned after existing online music services, IndijiRadio will deliver a continuous stream of traditional indigenous music with intermittent informative audio messages. As each piece of music plays, the service will display key information about the selection, including its cultural origin, source, musicians, a description, a thumbnail image, a place for listeners to leave comments, and where possible a way for listeners to download the music or buy a CD. Other services will include audio, video and text commentaries from indigenous representatives, academic music researchers, and others, information on live musical performances, and links to other sources of information on indigenous music. The technical elements involved in this service include robust and reliable computer software and hardware for compiling, storing, organizing, scheduling, and delivering musical playlists. ALI also will explore the feasibility of delivering music videos and organizing musical events for traditional indigenous music.

Kickstarter pledges will pay not only to launch IndijiRadio, but also to recruit sponsors to cover IndijiRadio’s continuing costs for next year and the years to come. A worldwide audience base will give sponsor prospects a good reason to get on board. ALI anticipates that indigenous organizations around the world will step up as partners and help the service to grow both in program content and financial support.

We invite you to participate, either with your pledge or by spreading the word or in both ways.
