Jay,

Let me check the NTIS database for privy-related material. Any CRM reports on
late 19th century sites might have privies on them.

As far as the labels are concerned, there has been some discussion on the idea
of barcoding and laser printed labels. The problem seems to be one of making
sure that the labels do not come off, and also whether the labels would hurt
the artifact in question. I, for one, would not want such labels on my
ceramics, as it would make it hard to see the item. Also, how reversible would
the process be? When I mark an artifact with waterproof ink and nail polish, I
know I can remove it with a quick smear of acetone.
