Keep dreaming, david. It's on the way. I was part of a large project
funded by the Ford Foundation and IBM to set up a digitized archives
here at Virginia Commonwealth University. IBM promised and delivered
a very expensive scanner/software/expert systems set-up which
theoretically could learn to read various script types, and digitize
them. So far, it has been very slow going, but we are beginning to
have some success. If you don't need to have the text itself
digitized, and only need a digital image of the document, your best
bet is probably to make a print of each page and scan it. You might
want tom check with your library, however, or the state archives
library. Most bigger libraries are in the process of digitizing many
archives, and they may have a micro-film/micro-fiche scanner. Good
luck.
