A recent post, as I suspect many of use know, contained a very long
non-ascii attachment which not only (in my mind) is a nuisance as a
waste of time but has the potential to crash any system without a lot
of spare memory (and is especially hard on Informix users).
 
Arch-L just went through this when a CRM firm posted a large graphic
file.  The result was for the list owner to set a (I think) a 300
line limit on posts.  I think the membership of HISTARCH should
consider this route.
 
I am not opposed to long posts, but in IMHO you should describe them
on the list but mail them only to interested parties.
