There are two people you might want to talk to about this.  Jerry Wylie,
Regional Archaeologist for the Intermountain Region of the Forest Service in
Ogden, Utah, has been working with opium artifact identification for many
years (his phone # is 801-625-5172).  Also, Pricilla Wegers is quite
knowledgeable.  She is curator of the Asian Comparative Collection at the
University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho (208) 885-7075.
