In excavating a kitchen site associated with the main house at Montpelier,
Orange Co., VA, we found a pierced/punched coin -  date 1765, Spanish,
Carlos III (undetermined denomination but it's silver, about the size of a
nickel).
 
The site was constructed ca. 1760 and stood until at least 1851.
