Here are a couple of sources to look up.

Edward Mueller. He has done several articles and books on steam-
boats on the St. John's River here in Florida. Give me a couple
hours and I could look up the titles and maybe even the book in
the library. He specializes in Oklawaha enclosed Rear-paddle
steamboats. There are some great lithographs from the late 1800s
        available.

Marjorie K. Rawlings "The Yearling" has an account of traveling by
        steamboat up the St. Johns.

You might check the Florida Department of State. There is an Under-
water Preserve for diving on the _City of Hawkinsville_, a Suwanee
River steamboat. There is some documentary research and publication
        that accompanies that steamboat.

That's all I could think of off the top of my head. BC
