Director.   Immediately, for the new Rutherford B.H. Yates Museum,
Inc; Printing History of the African Diaspora to be located in a
restored National Register home, in the only remaining, freed slave,
National Historic District of Freedmen's Town (Houston, Texas), of
its kind in the US.

Seeking full time, energetic person to direct all aspects of museum
operation. With the support of the Board Members, the Director must
be able to guide it through a major expansion program: of acquiring
property, restoration of another bldg., historic gardens, and new
construction of preservation library and workshop building.

Requires a bachelor's degree in history of people of African
heritage, business, archaeology, art history, museum administration,
historic preservation, or related fields. Computer proficiency,
required. Responsible for 2 part-time student interns, volunteers,
historic property management, financial planning, fundraising,
cultural programming, historical research, building strong community
alliances, promoting the international and national visibility of
the Museum.

Must demonstrate a willingness to develop a scholarly interest in
slave and freed slave history as it relates to the printed word and
art, and their impact on the building of community. Candidate will
initially work under the guidance of the already-established Houston
Museum of Printing History.
